Purpose
Design and manufacture of a large capacity hydraulic system for use in the production of breakfast cereals on a food production line.
Problem
As the Covid19 pandemic hit in early 2020 the government prioritised food production and encouraged food producers to maximise their output. Our client had a disused production line at one of their UK factory’s that they wanted to move sites and re-commission, unfortunately the hydraulic system could not be moved, and a replacement was therefore urgently required.
The major challenge for us was to design and manufacture a system using available parts from suppliers who were still operational during the government-imposed lockdown
Solution
By researching many new and alternative suppliers, and using parts that were either in stock, or available on short lead times we were able to develop a system design that was fit for purpose, and which could be built in the shortest possible time.
Outcome
We were first approached by the client in March 2020, the complete system was designed and manufactured in three months, it was subsequently installed and commissioned by Hedley, and went into production one month ahead of schedule in September.
