Research and Development (R&D) allows an organisation to improve and to develop innovations that strengthen the organisations position in the marketplace.  Some companies in this sector are dedicated to research and development.  Some developments are technology-based innovation but some consider sustainability issues.  The research and development performed is funded by business enterprise, higher education, government, UK research & innovation and private non-profit organisations.
